Big Brother Africa
The fourth series of Big Brother Africa has just started and this year there are more contestants, more prize money and they are forecasting bigger audiences than ever before. The Strand finds out why the programme is doing so well.

We look at the controversial redevelopment of Islam's holiest city, with projects from Norman Foster and Zaha Hadid being considered among others. But critics feel the redesign will empty Mecca of its spirituality and transform the city into a mini-Dubai. To find out more, Mark Coles talks to Kieran Long from the Architects' Journal and Dr Irfan Al Alawi from the Islamic Research Heritage Foundation.

Venice Film Festival
The Venice Film Festival is seen as the best of the last few years with films from Michael Moore to Steven Soderbergh and Iranian arthouse favourite Hana Makhmalbaf. Hollywood stars like Nicolas Cage and George Clooney have also visited the Lido. We catch up with film critic Lee Marshall prior to the awards ceremony on Saturday.

Prommers
As the Proms reaches its traditional climax this weekend, our reporter Louise Adamson meets a special breed of concert goers - the Prommers. Their name comes from promenading, and they listen to the music from unseated sections of the London hall - in the gallery around the top of the Royal Albert Hall or the arena in the centre. Many of them are season ticket holders who attend practically all of the concerts during the summer.
