Andrea Levy's writing explores her Jamaican heritage and how it connects with the history of Britain where she was born. She is the author of five novels. Her fourth novel, Small Island (2004), made her name as a writer winning a number of prestigious literary awards. It was translated into over 20 languages and later made into a television drama. The story of immigrants from Jamaica setting up in 1950s London in Small Island was then followed up with another exploration of Anglo Jamaican history in The Long Song (2010), her last novel. She talks to Razia Iqbal about her continued desire to chronicle the complex links between the Caribbean and the UK and the experience when her fourth novel Small Island became a major commercial hit. How did she find writing after such a success?
