Live from the New York Metropolitan Opera, The Magic Flute. Mozart's late, great fairy tale singspiel that combines comedy and mysticism.
The prince Tamino is lost and being pursued by a monster. He's rescued by three mysterious ladies who show him a picture of Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night, and he falls instantly in love. When he hears that she's been captured by the evil Sarastro he's determined to find her, with only some magical musical instruments and a reluctant bird catcher to help him on his way. Tenor Ben Bliss and soprano Golda Schultz are the noble lovers Tamino and Pamina, and baritone Thomas Oliemans repeats his animated portrayal of the outlandish bird catcher Papageno. Soprano Kathryn Lewek sings the Queen of the Night, bass Stephen Milling is the priest Sarastro, and Evan Rogister conducts.
Presented from the Met by Debra Lew Harder and Ira Siff.
