Mothering Sunday
To celebrate Mothering Sunday, Claire McCollum is in Leicestershire, meeting women inspired by their faith to nurture and care for others.
It’s Mothering Sunday, and Claire McCollum is meeting women inspired by their faith to nurture and care for others.
In Leicester, Claire visits a ‘Baby Basics’, where volunteers are busy organising much-needed items for families in need. Claire lends a hand preparing special Moses baskets packed with essentials for new mums and babies while finding out from CEO Cat Ross how Jesus’ teaching inspires her work.
Mothering can take many forms, and for some Christians, godmothers are an important part of the spiritual journey of a child. We meet Bex Keer, godmother to five, who feels she is living out a God-given calling in her role as a godmother.
Mothering Sunday wouldn’t be the same without flowers, and Claire creates a bouquet at a flower farm for a remarkable lady recognised as a hero in her community. Agnes Nisbett was a midwife in the 1970s when, at full term, her baby was stillborn. Claire finds out how Agnes used her own tragic experience and strong faith to improve the aftercare of other mums, following a stillbirth.
With hymns and worship songs from across the UK and a performance from Katherine Jenkins which speaks of a mother’s unconditional love:
1. Tell Out My Soul – St Elisabeth's Church, Reddish
2. The Summons – Our Lady of Compassion, Formby
3. Great Are You Lord – Gas Street Church, Birmingham
4. This Mother’s Heart – Katherine Jenkins
5. Great Is Thy Faithfulness – Vocal Creation
6. O God, You Search Me and You Know Me – Leeds Cathedral
