91Èȱ¬ New Generation Artists celebration plus Mozart from Switzerland

Linton Stephens showcases the best performances from the UK and beyond, including a celebration of the 91Èȱ¬ New Generation Artists scheme and music from Switzerland.

Linton Stephens showcases the best performances by 91Èȱ¬ orchestras, choirs, ensembles and other great performing groups from Europe and around the globe. This week on Classical Live, we celebrate 25 years of the 91Èȱ¬ New Generation Artists scheme. Founded in 1999, the programme supports some of the world’s most exciting young instrumentalists, ensembles and singers at the start of their international careers, through performance and broadcast opportunities on Radio 3. Today, the Leonkoro Quartet perform Ravel, cellist Santiago Canon-Valencia joins pianist Naoko Sonoda to play music by Manuel De Falla and Alison Balsom performs Wynton Marsalis Trumpet Concerto as our centrepiece.

Plus, we will hear music from Switzerland, thanks to our partnership with the European Broadcasting Union. The Swiss Orchestra, conducted by Lena-Lisa Wüstendörfer, perform Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik and the finale from Tchaikovsky's Serenade in C major.
