Elizabeth Alker introduces an afternoon of specially made recordings including highlights from the series of ‘Proms’ concerts given in South Korea by the 91Èȱ¬ Scottish Symphony Orchestra made at the end of last year. Today the orchestra perform Mahler’s masterly 5th Symphony at the Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul. The Classical Live Artist Spotlight this week is on one of South Korean’s most celebrated pianists, Seong-Jin Cho and also in today’s programme Elizabeth marks the 30th anniversary of the much-loved Belcea Quartet with more from their special birthday concert given in Belgium last month. Plus there’s another chance to hear from 91Èȱ¬ Radio 3’s ‘25 for ‘25: Sounds of the Century’ – a series of brand new commissions celebrating and commemorating some of the biggest events from the first quarter of the 21st century. The composer Arowah (Anjelica Cleaver) describes herself as an artist and activist whose mission is founding community and collective healing. Her new piece for the project, performed by the 91Èȱ¬ Concert Orchestra, reflects the UK’s biggest Peace Rally in February 2003.
