Bon Kurei impersonates Magellan and orders the gate to be opened long enough to allow the prisoners' ship to escape. Luffy is devastated to hear of Bon Kurei鈥檚 staying behind, but comes to accept that there is no other choice, and thanks him over a small Denden Mushi. After he makes sure that Luffy鈥檚 ship has sailed through the Gate of Justice, Bon Kurei tells Magellan he has no regrets before their faceoff.
