Graham Coxon: The musical ups and downs of my life

Musician and songwriter Graham Coxon of Blur and The Waeve shares the music that has sound-tracked his life and how his own experiences are woven into his own songs.

Musician and songwriter Graham Coxon of Blur and The Waeve shares the pivotal moments that have made him the multi-talented artist he is today. Talking to Nemone, who combines her roles of DJ and qualified psychotherapist, Graham dives deep to share his story and the songs that have moved him and sound-tracked the ups and downs of his eventful life. He also reveals how personal experiences and emotions are woven through his own work. It鈥檚 a chance to understand his relationship with music more intimately, to learn more about how he has used sound to communicate, and how he has reached the place we meet him in.

The multi-instrumentalist began his musical adventure by playing saxophone on his schoolmate's first records. With that friend, Damon Albarn, he went on to form one of Britpop鈥檚 biggest bands, Blur, with gargantuan success through the 90s and 00s. Graham has released eight solo LPs, TV film scores, been in The Jaded Hearts Club alongside Muse's Matt Bellamy and Miles Kane, and has created his own graphic novel and album 'Superstate'. Graham is now one half of The Waeve with Rose Elinor Dougal, his partner in life as well as music. The couple released their second album 'City Lights' last month.

Graham shares his memories of childhood, growing up on army estates and his early musical mentors. He also talks about living with anxiety, the circumstances that led him to rehab, his romantic and musical partnership with Rose, and the stories behind the tracks on their new album.

In this series Nemone will be talking in depth to Nadine Shah, Joan As Policewoman and Simon Raymonde formerly of Cocteau Twins and now head of well respected label Bella Union.
