Paul Weller: The musical ups and downs of my life

Paul Weller shares the pivotal moments that have made him the artist he is today, and the songs that have sound-tracked the ups and downs of his life.

Paul Weller shares the pivotal moments that have made him the multi-talented musician and composer he is today. Talking to Nemone who combines her roles of DJ and practising psychotherapist, Paul reveals how his relationship with music has grown over the six decades he鈥檚 been releasing records and the experiences that have had an impact on his work.

The prolific award-winning singer songwriter, affectionately known as 'The Modfather' by his fans, burst onto the music scene back in the late 70s fronting The Jam. A string of hits followed such as 'Eton Rifles', 'A Town Called Malice', 'Going Underground', 'That's Entertainment' and 'The Bitterest Pill'. This led to further musical adventures with The Style Council in the 80s and solo material under his own name from 1992 onwards. Nemone and Paul chat in his studio ahead of the release of new album '66'. They talk about life growing up with the Wellers in Woking, teenage musical influences, the impact of The Jam's success and band's subsequent split, working with his musical partner-in-crime Ocean Colour Scene's Steve Craddock, the joy of playing live, the process of writing songs and the making of the new album which will be released the day before his 66th birthday on the 24th of May. Paul also talks about how life has changed since giving up alcohol and how he tries to look after himself.

During this intimate conversation Paul picks music that has sound-tracked his life from The Beatles, Little Richard, The Four Tops, The Who, The Sex Pistols, The Clash and Frankie Knuckles, and shares his love of artists such as Liam Bailey and Vegyn. He also chooses his ultimate 'Self Care' track, one that helps him relax and re-set.
