The Fretless in Session & Jack Badcock
Canadian folk string quartet The Fretless join Anna in session and Jack Badcock talks about his solo album.
A supergroup of celebrated solo artists, The Fretless dares to expand the idea of what a string music quartet can be — transforming fiddle tunes and folk melodies into intricate, beautiful, high-energy arrangements that have quickly gained a dedicated following and accolades from around the world. Within what appears to be a simple and classical construct — two fiddles, a viola, and a cello — The Fretless are pushing traditional music to new heights, producing a completely fresh approach to folk music. The band stop into the studio in Aberdeen for a few tunes amid a string of Scottish dates with singer Madeleine Roger, a folk singer-songwriter from Winnipeg.
Plus Dallahan frontman and founding member Jack Badcock joins Anna live on the eve of the release of his debut solo album, fulfilling a long-held ambition and putting his diverse and arresting songwriting skills centre stage.
