World War II Compass

Episode 6 of 30

Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim to get the best price for their items, including a music box, chess mould, a gallery painting, a zoetrope and a World War II compass.

Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room's new home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.

First through the doors is Peter – he has had success in the Bidding Room before, but this time he is with son Edward, aiming to raise even more money for a burgeoning archery career. They have brought some antique treasures along, hoping to covert the heirlooms into a family legacy, with any money made going towards new equipment and setting Edward on the right path towards the Olympics.

Next in is teacher Kate with enterprise students Joe and Pheobe. They have some industrial items they are hoping to pedal to the dealers with plans to raise funds for their next school project.

Third into the Bidding Room is Namita, with a painting she was lucky enough to win at a charity lunch. But she is not letting it go cheaply – Namita wants to see big bids from the dealers if they want to be in the frame to make the painting their own.

Next in is Jacob. He has brought along mum Janet, who wants to know more about an entertaining piece her late husband collected. They both have big holiday plans for any money they make, but Simon has some expert knowledge for them that might put paid to that.

And finally, Amy has an intriguing compass she wants to present to the dealers in the hope of making some money to guide her towwards a film director’s career. Lover of all things mechanical Jacqui should be interested, but will any of the other dealers find their way to securing the piece of World War II history?

The dealers today are Ian, Jacqui, Adi, Jo, Lauren and Viki.
