Pottery and Contemporary Upholstery

Episode 2 of 15

Emily needs to find a way of selling her pottery to help manage her lifestyle following a brain injury. Hayley’s upholstery is beautiful, but to stand out she needs to go bespoke.

Potter Emily from Staffordshire and upholsterer Hayley from Hampshire are both hoping Dom and his team of mentors can help them turn their talents into profitable businesses. Following a brain injury and further complications that left people services assistant Emily unable to work, she turned to pottery, which not only helped her out of a dark place, but also gave her hope of a new career. Mentor Florian Gadsby sees Emily’s potential and a way of helping her sell that will create a more suitable lifestyle for her.

Upholsterer Hayley has to grow her business to support her family, as her husband needs to leave his plumbing job, which is making his bad back worse. She has all the skills, she just needs direction, and mentor Micaela believes she should go more bespoke to stand out from the crowd.

Each maker is given eight weeks to put their mentors’ advice into practice. Can they use their creativity to build the business and lifestyles they’re hoping for?
