Celebrating Black History
Sean Fletcher joins the congregation at one of Britain鈥檚 biggest Baptist churches and finds out how they are celebrating their roots and heritage this Black History Month.
Sean Fletcher celebrates Black History Month with one of Britain鈥檚 biggest Baptist congregations, Trinity Baptist Church in Croydon, south London. He joins the youth choir to find out how they are celebrating their roots and heritage, and discovers why the church鈥檚 founding pastor felt called to bring a faith that鈥檚 thriving in Ghana back to the shores of Britain.
YolanDa Brown meets Ken Burton to find out the amazing story of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, a group of freed slaves from America who brought the beginnings of gospel music to Victorian Britain, and discovers why Ken has started his own choir in London to preserve their original sound and style.
We also hear why one church in Bristol has replaced a controversial set of Victorian stained-glass windows which commemorated Bristol slave trader Edward Colston with a new design depicting Jesus in multiple ethnicities in biblical and contemporary scenes.
