The world’s fastest man will be decided in Budapest – can Zharnel Hughes continue his record form and become Great Britain’s first global 100m champion since 1993 when Linford Christie won the title?
Defending champion Fred Kerley led an American sweep of the medals in the event last summer, while Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya is vying to become Africa’s first male 100m world medallist.
The heptathlon also reaches its climax with the 800m this evening. Nafi Thiam of Belgium is the pre-eminent female multi-eventer, but a loaded field includes rising American star Anna Hall, Olympic and world silver medallist Anouk Vetter and Britain’s 2019 world champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson. European Indoor long jump champion Jazz Sawyers seeks a first senior global medal, Olympic 1,500m medallists Laura Muir and Josh Kerr are among the Brits in semi-final action and Joshua Cheptegei defends his 10,000m crown.
