Former world champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson and multiple major medallist Laura Muir lead the British contingent on the opening morning of this global extravaganza in Budapest.

Johnson-Thompson has been beset by injuries since winning the heptathlon title in 2019 but she has shown a welcome return to form and will expect to make a bright start to her seven-event competition in the 100m hurdles and high jump.

Muir competes in the first round of the 1500m, an event in which she added world bronze in 2022 to her Olympic silver. Other highlights include reigning European Indoor champion Jazz Sawyers in the women鈥檚 long jump qualification, and the first medals of the championships are decided in the men鈥檚 20km race walk.
