Countertenor Iestyn Davies 鈥� whose 鈥榰tterly sublime鈥� singing and 鈥榞orgeous tone鈥� captivated audiences last season 鈥� returns with an all-Bach late-night concert. He joins period-instrument group The English Concert (currently celebrating its 50th anniversary) for two of Bach鈥檚 solo cantatas, both composed in 1726 during his early years as music director at Leipzig鈥檚 St Thomas Church. While the lovely Vergn眉gte Ruh gazes towards heaven, Geist und Seele marvels at a miracle of creation and God鈥檚 goodness. The bustling joy of Bach鈥檚 Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 for strings completes the programme.
