It has prompted concerns from the RSPCA that consumers are putting much less of a priority on animal welfare and the environment in their efforts to balance the family budget.
The Government has reaffirmed its plans to ban the sale of all new petrol and diesel cars by 2030. Faced with the deadline, sales continue to soar. But the growth in electric cars, up 40% for battery-powered cars in June, is being driven by business users who can receive substantial tax benefits.
