SDLP leader will refuse to swear Coronation oath

The SDLP leader and Foyle MP Colum Eastwood has said he will refuse to swear an oath of allegiance to the King when he attends Westminster Abbey.

The SDLP leader and Foyle MP Colum Eastwood has said he will refuse to swear an oath of allegiance to the King when he attends Westminster Abbey.

Attendees and the public will be invited make the pledge during the course of the ceremony.

Mr Eastwood has told this programme that it was a difficult decision to go to the Coronation but he believes he is showing leadership and respect for other's traditions.

Also - A Derry couple who had their daughter through a surrogate have called for UK surrogacy laws to become more streamlined and accessible for all parents.

In 2021 Patrick and Jon Coyle became the first gay couple in Northern Ireland to have a baby through surrogacy without leaving the country.

At present, under UK law, it is the surrogate that is the child鈥檚 legal parent at birth.
