Karen Matheson: Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame

Anna Massie in conversation with Karen Matheson OBE, newly inducted to the Scottish Traditional Hall of Fame, plus tracks from some of this year's Trad Award winners.

Once praised as having 鈥渁 throat that is surely touched by God" by none other than Sean Connery, Karen Matheson OBE has been inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame - awarded to musicians who have altered the Scottish musical landscape for the better. Widely recognised as the compelling vocals of Scots band Capercaillie with whom she has graced the pop charts and featured in blockbuster movies, Karen Matheson鈥檚 solo career highlights have included sharing the stage with Pete Seeger in New York and performing at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where her stunning rendition of 鈥楢e fond kiss鈥� stole the show to a televised audience of over 600 million people. She was awarded an OBE in the 2006 New Years Honours List. In 2022, Karen sang a psalm in Gaelic in St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh on the occasion of the funeral of Her Majesty the Queen.
