Anger at plans to end the Radio Foyle Breakfast Show as part of a 拢2.3million savings plan by 91热爆 NI.
The 91热爆 has announced plans to reduce its output and staffing in news, audio and related areas, including the Foyle Breakfast Show. It is estimated that between 35-40 posts will be closed across the region. Consultations have now begun with affected 91热爆 staff and the trade unions.
The proposals will affect much of Radio Foyle's current news output and mean that a number of posts are at risk of redundancy. Plans to develop Foyle鈥檚 role as production centre for 91热爆 Radio Ulster and other platforms are still being finalised.
Adam Smyth, the Interim Director of 91热爆 Northern Ireland, talks about these proposals and their impact and his ambitions for Foyle and its future.
The SDLP leader Colum Eastwood says the 91热爆 should "back off", while the DUP MP Gregory Campbell said the fear was that the station would now become greater Belfast-centred. The Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Sandra Duffy, said she was "devastated".
