British Exploring Society prepare and take young people on expeditions to remote wilderness locations where they face challenges, gain skills and learn about themselves, as well as acquiring knowledge relevant to their lives and the fragile environments that they explore.聽 The results are transformative, not just in terms of practical skills and resilience, but in a new-found confidence and self-belief which they carry forward to their future life.聽聽

Young carer Catherine joined an expedition to the Scottish Highlands in 2021. Exploring the wilderness and being physically and mentally challenged has helped her in managing her anxiety and building her confidence.

Our Expedition Leaders are unpaid professionals who volunteer their free time to take on considerable responsibility. They encourage young people to work together to plan their expedition, to nurture self-confidence, problem solving and teamwork.
