Slow Sunday: Journeys in Sound with Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip

Alexis talks to practising psychotherapist and 6 Music DJ Nemone about how music affects his mental and physical well-being, sharing the songs that have comforted and connected.

Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor chats to practising psychotherapist and 6 Music DJ Nemone about how music affects his mental and physical well-being, sharing the songs that have comforted and connected. Alexis also reveals how he expresses thoughts, feelings and emotions through his own music and lyrics.

Hot Chip began as a bedroom recording project in 1995 when Alexis met bandmate Joe Goddard at secondary school in London. After completing two EPs, the group released their debut album, 鈥楥oming on Strong鈥, in 2004. The band's second album, 鈥楾he Warning鈥, released in 2006, was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Their follow-up, 2008's 鈥楳ade in the Dark鈥, included the single 鈥楻eady for the Floor鈥, which was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. The band have subsequently released the albums 鈥極ne Life Stand鈥 in 2010, 鈥業n Our Heads鈥 in 2012, 鈥榃hy Make Sense?鈥 in 2015, 鈥楢 Bath Full of Ecstasy鈥 in 2019, and their eighth, and latest, album 鈥楩reakout/Release鈥 in August this year.

As a solo artist, the singer, songwriter and musician has released EPs and albums such as 2016's 'Piano鈥. An accompanying album, 鈥楲isten With(out) Piano鈥, was released in March 2017, and features re-works of tracks from Piano with other musicians; both albums can be played separately or at the same time.

Having toured all over the world, Hot Chip are no strangers to playing 6 Music鈥檚 live festival, having headlined in Newcastle in 2015 and Liverpool in 2019.

Alexis' mum is a Greek psychoanalyst, so he and Nemone have plenty to talk about! He also talks about living with tinnitus, and the importance of silence.

Featuring beautiful music from Stevie Wonder to John Cage, Prince to Bob Dylan, and Jamie Principle to Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.
