Asturias to Skye

Gary West treats you to bagpipe-flavoured musical delights from Asturias, Brittany and the Isle of Skye, as he previews a busy month ahead in the world of piping.

With a hectic few weeks ahead scheduled for the piping community, Gary West looks ahead to some of the musical treats in store during August, including Piping Live and the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow and the prestigious Silver Chanter contest on the Isle of Skye. Music comes from soloists Callum Beaumont, Angus MacColl and Jamie Forrester, from the bellows tradition we hear from Iain MacInnes and Tim Cummings, the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band go through their paces from the world championships of 2006, and there are visits to the European continent to take in sets from Asturian piper, Borja Baragano, and Breton all-rounder, Xavier Boderiou.
