With the Piping Live festival returning to full strength in Glasgow in August, Gary West looks ahead to sample the music of some of the highlights on offer this year. The Inveraray and District and Johnstone pipe bands show why they are two of the finest in the land, while the folk band, Rura, and uillean piping legend, Paddy Keenan, treat us to fiery tunes from the world of folk. Allan MacDonald puts both voice and fingers to good use in his interpretation of the pibroch, Lament for Alasdair Dearg, while there are solo highland pipe sets from Craig Sutherland, Sarah Muir, Matt MacIsaac and Sandy Cameron. And look out too for a first taster of a new and long-awaited release from the hugely talented ex Red Hot Chilli piper, Kyle Warren.
