with Connie McLaughlin

Connie McLaughlin marks Mother's Day, discusses the role propaganda is playing in the war in Ukraine and looks at the effects of being diagnosed as neuro diverse as an adult.

Stories around Goddess mythology and the feminine divine are increasingly being explored and reclaimed by new writers. Connie talks to Nikita Gill author of The Girl and the Goddess and Dr Ophira Gamliel, lecturer in South Asian Theology & Religious Studies at the University of Glasgow, about this enduring fascination.

Writer Margaret Reynolds went on a 7 year journey before adopting her daughter. It’s a story she recounts with determination and love in her book ‘Wild Track’.

And Connie will be talking to her own mother, who remains her role model and inspiration.

Alongside the brutal war in Ukraine, a propaganda war is also raging. Dr Emma Briant, one of the key researchers who uncovered the Cambridge Analytica scandal in 2018; and Dr Joanna Szostek, lecturer in Political Communications at Glasgow University who specialises in Russian and Ukrainian politics, discuss how propaganda is being used both now and in the past.

Last week it was revealed that deep beneath the floor of Notre Dame Cathedral a sarcophagus dating back to the 1300s had been discovered, alongside other archaeologic treasures. Three years after the Cathedral’s devastating fire, journalist Agnes Poirier discusses the significance of the finds and the future for this historic building.

What’s it like to be diagnosed as neurodiverse as an adult, and discovering so late the reason for always having felt different in society? Reverend Canon Lynsay Downs, Rector at St Ternan’s Scottish Episcopal Church in Banchory, who was diagnosed as an adult with autism, recounts her story, and is joined by Dr. David Simmons, lecturer at The University of Glasgow’s School of Psychology and Neuroscience.
