Orchid Project is a charity working to end the harmful practice of female genital cutting (also known as mutilation) by 2030. In order to do this we need to continue to support and fund local grassroots programmes to work within the heart of communities where female genital cutting is practiced. We also advocate for policy change and funding commitments from local and national governments and international humanitarian organisations. We will commission more research on how to achieve abandonment of the practice and act as a ‘hub’ for best practice knowledge-sharing for organisations striving to end female genital cutting from around the world.

Orchid project partners and funds grassroot organisations in Africa, Asia and the UK. Using local knowledge, we hold workshops, performances and mobilise community activists to open up conversations on this taboo issue.

We always place movement leaders like our presenter Hoda Ali  at the centre of our work to influence governments and global leaders. Hoda experienced female genital cutting herself at the age of seven in Somaliland and nearly died from medical complications when she reached adolescence.

We build networks and run knowledge sharing workshops for those working to end female genital cutting, so they can learn about best approaches and work together to end cutting, globally.
