A joyous festive exploration via music, guests and poetry: Afrobeat Christmas Party

Cerys curates an eclectic festive playlist and welcomes Dele Sosimi to Maida Vale for an Afrobeat Christmas party. Plus Ffion Mair tells us about the Welsh tradition of Plygain.

Cerys is feeling festive as she curates you an eclectic festive Sunday soundtrack featuring classic Christmas tracks from Pink Martini, Clarence Carter, The Temptations and Nat King Cole.

Cerys welcomes Dele Sosimi to Maida Vale for an Afrobeat Christmas party. In the late 1970's, Dele Sosimi joined Fela Kuti's Egypt 80 playing keyboards for one of the founders of Afrobeat. He later formed Femi Anikulapo-kuti and the Positive Force with Femi, where Dele was the musical director, keyboardist and bandleader. Asides from his work writing and performing music, he is an educator and instructor in the genre, and this year saw him collaborate with Eparapo.

Plus Ffion Mair from The Foxglove Trio tell us about the unbroken Christmas tradition of Plygain in Montgomery, Wales. The singing tradition is thought to date back to the 16th Century, where members of the same family sing in harmony at a candlelit gathering.
