It鈥檚 been a quiet few months in the Animal Antics arena at Edinburgh Zoo and not just because of Covid restrictions. Avian bird flu has also been an issue in the UK, but with things getting back to some kind of normality and public shows looking likely again, training and free-flying for the birds is back on the agenda.
Experienced keeper Jess steps up to a new role as senior keeper and demonstrates her special relationship with Kato the southern ground hornbill when vets need to take a blood sample.
At Highland Wildlife Park, excitement mounts as the birth of Amur tiger cubs draws closer. The IT team are called in to install CCTV to capture the birth and keep an eye on new mum Dominika.
In the Budongo Trail exhibit in Edinburgh, chimps show off their problem-solving skills. It takes ingenuity and clever thinking to access the porridge that keepers have stuffed into lengths of tubing. And the highly intelligent chimpanzees prove their screen skill credentials playing computer games for researcher Emma. But there is a problem for staff to solve when baby Masindi is found with a serious head injury.
