However for business, the lure of cheap production and a billion plus consumers has made the country an indispensable partner in the quest for profits and growth. But are those political issues now starting to take their toll on companies that want to operate on mainland China. Earlier this month US President, Joe Biden tightened restrictions on Chinese tech firms Huawei and ZTE. On the flip side LinkedIn and Yahoo announced there were pulled out of mainland China in response to tougher data regulations.
So could the world's two biggest economies really decouple - or do they need each other too much? We get the thoughts of Ker Gibbs, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shangha. And Edith Yeung, a Partner at Race Capital who specialises providing funding for Chinese and America tech firms.
