Do You Hear What I Hear?
December 1997. Monica is to leave DC, alarmed to be linked to the Paula Jones case and unaware that Linda’s evasive behaviour masks betrayal.
Christmas is Linda’s favourite time of year, and even guilt over giving Monica’s name to those supporting the Paula Jones sexual harassment suit cannot spoil it. Monica is nervous and paranoid about the case – especially when her subpoena specifies a detail few know. Swearing nothing happened between her and Bill Clinton in an affidavit is the only answer.
Elsewhere in Washington, Judge Kenneth Starr gathers his team to consider if they have sufficient evidence to impeach President Clinton. Frustratingly for them, they do not. Meanwhile, Paula’s deposition in Arkansas reveals to her how personal and hurtful the Clinton team are going to get.
Linda expects the taped calls with Monica to be key evidence exposing Clinton’s behaviour. However, Linda’s lawyer says the recordings are illegal – and she faces jail for making them. Immunity from prosecution is required – but that means proving Monica lied in her affidavit.
