Cerys welcomes Luke Kennard to The Poet Tree and brings you an eclectic Sunday selection from around the globe.
Dr. Luke Kennard was nominated by previous Poet Tree guest Caroline Bird who described his work as painful and funny. Luke discusses his writing, influences and inspirations. Luke is an award winning poet, and the Head of Department of Film and Creative Writing at Birmingham University. His PhD examined The Expanse: Self-Consciousness and The Transatlantic Tendencies of the Prose Poem.
Plus drummer Remi Kabaka shares his memories of the Afrobeat drummer pioneer and legend Tony Allen. Remi has co-curated a show with Damon Albarn, Ben Okri and Femi Koleoso to celebrate Tony Allen's life and music as part of this year's London Jazz Festival. Remi Kabaka is a producer and drummer with Gorillaz and the son of the legendary Nigerian Percussionist. Remi worked with Tony Allen on his London sessions in March 2020, Tony passed away the following month.
As part of the mini-virtual festival Variations which runs alongside COP26, we hear from Yoko Ono and Tune-Yards Merrill Garbus about the work they've curated especially commissioned by Sage Gateshead.
