A sailing club’s training boat, damaged beyond repair in a storm, and a musician’s first trombone are among the transformations for the skilled team of crafters.

Sabrina Grant presents as a team of expert crafters transform unused objects into contemporary and functional items.

A sailing boat has washed up at the workshop today, ready to be transformed. It’s from Caroline’s sailing club and was damaged beyond repair in a storm. ‘Lucy’ has been the boat that many club members learned to sail on, and so Caroline can’t bear the thought of scrapping it. Interior design expert Rob and fine furniture maker Daisy pitch their transformation designs for Caroline to choose from.

Tim brings in his first ever trombone, which has been in his family for years. He’s now a professional trombone player, and this instrument was how his career began. He would like it to remain recognisable, but gives Leigh the chance to use his imagination. The metal sculptor hits all the right notes with a design that is a real show-stopper.

When Gary moved into his house, he found a rusting petrol pump from the 1920s in the garage. There aren’t many around, so he doesn’t want it cut into bits, but can petrol-head and metalwork expert Titch transform it into something useful?

And carpentry expert Shelley has Sarah’s old coffee table to work with. It’s solid wood with natural smooth curves, and as a child Sarah loved sliding on it. So when her mum didn’t need it anymore, Sarah grabbed her chance – but she hasn’t found a place for it in her house, so it has been in the loft for years. Shelley comes up with an idea that is both beautiful and functional to wow Sarah.
