The business of space is taking off. The global space industry is expected to generate revenue of $1.1 trillion or more in 2040. Billionaire entrepreneurs Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Richard Branson are each vying to usher in a new era of private commercial space travel spanning tourism, communications satellites and research. But it's not just the super-rich who are eyeing the commercial potential of space. Worldwide, governments are still the main investors in space activities. Global government space budgets hit nearly $40 billion in 2020 and 80 countries now have space programs.
