Heavy Light, dark drama, music of love and loss and a streetwise podcast

Gary Raymond and guests cast a critical eye on the Welsh arts and popular culture scene.

Gary Raymond and guests cast a critical eye on the Welsh arts and popular culture scene. This month Gary is joined by academic and critic Dr Carrie Smith and writer and broadcaster Charles Williams. The panel discuss the new book from Horatio Clare - Heavy Light is a fast-paced exploration of the author's own manic breakdown. Clare is a writer best known for his lyrical, exuberant travel writing, but Heavy Light charts the journey of a very different kind, whilst retaining his characteristic charm and wit.

They've been watching Bregus - S4C's dark and brooding psychological thriller. The drama series follows the unfurling perfect life of Hannah Daniels' Ellie - surgeon, wife and mother - as a shocking tragedy brings up ghosts from the past.

And they've been listening to Meet the Street, a new comedy podcast from John Rutledge, famous as an original member of Goldie Lookin' Chain. Meet the Street is a character-driven podcast spoof, with Rutledge taking the central role of David Plimpton, an aged retiree casting a light on the colourful inhabitants of his local neighbourhood.

Gary and guests also give their verdicts on The Art of Losing, the second studio album from The Anchoress, current incarnation of Catherine Anne Davies. Written, performed and produced by Davies, the album offers an evocative and many textured exploration of love and loss.
