Cerys speaks to travel and food writer Yasmin Khan and VP Records co-founder Miss Pat shares stories and music from her career. Cerys hand picks a joyous and eclectic soundtrack from around the globe, filled with hidden gems. This week there's brand new music from Malian kora player Ballaké Sissoko, Molly Linen, French electronic producer Rone and Creole sounds from The Indian Ocean. As well as cherished gems from Curtis Mayfield, Ike and Tina Turner and Jimmy McGriff.
Patricia Chin aka Miss Pat co-founded VP Records, one of the world’s leading reggae music labels after moving to New York from Kingston, Jamaica. She shares stories and highlights from her career and her recently published memoir and photo book – Miss Pat: My Reggae Music journey.
Broadcaster, travel writer and cook Yasmin Khan joins Cerys to discuss her latest publication Ripe Figs: Recipes and Stories from Turkey, Greece and Cyprus. For this book Yasmin travelled by boat and land to trace how recipes have spread through the Easter Mediterranean from the time of the Ottoman rule to the influence of refugee communities.
Plus Cerys delves into the 91Èȱ¬ Archive for the voice of bass player Carol Kaye who's played bass on a vast collection of classics from JJ Cale to Sonny and Cher. Music collector and ex-record label manager Tony Higgins shares his thoughts on the golden age of Japanese jazz.
