Cosmo Sheldrake takes us on a sonic journey through Oceans.
From the depths of the Pacific Ocean among a pod of humpback whales, south to Antarctic, north to the equator to a bustling coral reef off the coast of Indonesia, over to the Norwegian fjords and finally to the North Sea.
We listen to humpback whales singing, sperm whales clicking, weddell seals and bearded seals courting, coral reefs spluttering, bucktoothed parrot fish crunching, shrimp snapping, long horned sculpins honking, blue whales lamenting and haddock drumming.
All of the music is composed entirely out of recordings of these animals and the sound worlds that they inhabit.
Featuring a Weddell seal recorded by Bernie Krause, Haddock drumming recorded by Anthony Hawkins (provided by the British Library Sound archives), coral reef in Indonesia recorded by Steve Simpson and fish recordings from the U.S navy between 1967-1974 as part of a match-to-sample program for U.S. submarines monitoring underwater signals (courtesy of Bernie Krause).
Music composed by Cosmo Sheldrake.
