17/12/20 Rural planning, virtual fences, Christmas goose, cider

Getting planning right for the countryside, what are the next steps?

The government has revised its controversial planning reform that had led to fears from conservation groups and some high profile Conservative MPs that the countryside would be 鈥渃oncreted over鈥 with new housing estates. The Campaign for the Protection of Rural England gives their reaction to the turnaround.
Fencing can be tough, time consuming and expensive work, so wouldn鈥檛 it be convenient if cattle or sheep could learn to respect a 'virtual fence'? Virtual fences using wireless cow collars and GPS are already being used in Norway and New Zealand, and from next year they鈥檙e going to be on sale to farmers in the UK. We find out how they work.
All this week we're looking at how farming businesses are preparing for Christmas, and today we hear from a farmer rearing geese.

Presented by Caz Graham and produced by Beatrice Fenton.
