Glasgay!

Mark Stephen hears the story of Glasgay, the arts festival celebrating queer culture which launched at a time when Section 28 banned councils from promoting homosexuality.

The Glasgay! arts festival was launched in 1993 despite Section 28, a legal clause that forbade local authorities from promoting homosexuality. It was a runaway success and the annual celebration of queer culture continued until 2014, the same year gay marriage was introduced. Mark Stephen hears from the people who set up the festival, those that ran it, volunteers, performers and audience members. For many, it was a life-changing experience.
