Episode 2
Jennie treats a giant boil on a cow鈥檚 backside, Julie comes face to face with a rare wild animal she鈥檚 never seen before, and Terry performs
emergency surgery on the farm.
The series returns to the spectacular Kingdom of Mourne and the mountain vets who are the lifeblood of this unique country community.
The historic cathedral town of Downpatrick is home to the oldest veterinary clinic in the Mournes, where vet Jennie is the newest addition to the team. As well as handling small animal work, Jennie and the other vets visit up to twenty local farms every week.
Jennie drives into the mountains to help with a case that reminds her that being a Mountain Vet is anything but glamorous, as she has to lance a giant boil the size of a watermelon on the leg of a cow.
11 miles from Downpatrick is the market town of Castlewellan. Castle Vets has been at the heart of the community here for over thirty years and is now one of the area鈥檚 biggest practices. Julie, the clinic鈥檚 head nurse, has seen most things in her long career. But today is a first for her. A rare wild animal has been brought in, found lying at the side of the road and before assessing what鈥檚 wrong with it, she must first find out what it is.
Back in Downpatrick, Jennie also has a mystery to solve. A family has brought in their beloved cat, Lottie. They found her collapsed, after having disappeared. Lottie means the world to them all, as she was given to the family as part of the therapy when mum was recovering from cancer. So the pressure is on but Jennie is stuck for a diagnosis. Will exploratory surgery and a fingertip examination of the animal鈥檚 intestines reveal what鈥檚 wrong?
Meanwhile, one of the Castle Vets, Terry, is off to see a local farmer about a cow who鈥檚 losing weight having given birth. Through touch and a
simple trick with a stethoscope Terry quickly diagnoses the problem and fixes it by hand.
