AG Cook, founder of the experimental pop label PC Music talks about his work. The London-based collective and record label is known for its surreal and extreme take on electronic pop music, embracing the aesthetics of advertising and consumerism with a bright, colourful veneer of ultra-glossy art. Formed in 2013, the label hosts a roster of aliases including Hannah Diamond, Tommy Cash and Girlfriend Of The Year. The Grammy nominated SOPHIE was an early associate of the label, and pop princess Charlie XCX has lauded PC Music for its influence on her sound.

And in tribute to the late Simeon Coxe, the featured album is Silver Apples' eponymous debut. Released in 1968, the album utilised a proto-synthesizer setup, including nine audio oscillators and ninety six manual controllers, pieced together in part from discarded second world war equipment. 鈥淚 had heard the word synthesizer, but I had no idea what it was,鈥� Coxe told The Guardian last year. 鈥淲e were dirt poor and used what we had, which was often discarded World War II gear.鈥� Bands including Stereolab, Spiritualized and Portishead have cited Silver Apples as an influence. Portishead鈥檚 Geoff Barrow described them as 鈥渢he perfect band 鈥� they should definitely be up there with the pioneers of electronic music鈥�.
