Good morning.

In 2019, Charlie Mackesy鈥檚 book The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse sold over one million copies in the UK and USA.

But not only was it a publishing sensation, it turned out to be a remarkably prophetic book.

听

For in his simple pen-and-ink drawings about finding compassion in companionship,

Mackesy unknowingly predicted the emotions which would be felt by so many during the pandemic of 2020.

听

Phrases like: 鈥渢his storm will pass鈥�, 鈥渓ife is difficult, but you are loved鈥� and

鈥淓veryone is a bit scared, but we are less scared together,鈥�

are just some of the gentle musings

that have resonated for so many, over recent months.

听

In St Paul鈥檚 letter to the Christians at Colossae,

he asks them to 鈥渃lothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience鈥� 鈥� to 鈥榩ut on鈥� those beautiful qualities which reflect the love of Christ.

听

Paul doesn鈥檛 pretend that showing this sort of love will be easy,

but he teaches that as we clothe ourselves in Christ鈥檚 mercy and grace,

we will be transformed by his love and we will find the capacity to show that same love to others. 听

听

In these days, we have seen Christ-like love in action:

Carers putting themselves in danger, to help those most in need;

Neighbours providing food and friendship, when family haven鈥檛 been able to;

People stepping up to give leadership and direction

听

The storm has not yet fully passed:

but as we travel through it together,

let us remember that we are loved and let us ask for grace to share that love

with any who are still a bit scared.

听

Lord Jesus, help us to clothe ourselves with your compassion and give us grace to show your love to all who are in need, today and every day, AMEN.
