With Cathy Macdonald

Coming out of lockdown safely together, rethinking how we care for society's older and more vulnerable citizens and celebrating the Dalai Lama鈥檚 85th birthday

Coming out of lockdown creates as many challenges as entering it did four months ago. Cathy Macdonald examines the psychology of this at a society level with Stephen Reicher Professor of Psychology at the University of St Andrews, who has been part of the expert team advising the Governments at Westminster and in Scotland. We also look at the impact lockdown and the lifting of lockdown has had on relationships with Charley and Colin Gavigan, whose Glasgow based company, Brave Your Day, offers counselling to groups and individuals.

Now that visitors are allowed back to care homes is it time to rethink how we care for society鈥檚 older and more vulnerable citizens? Cathy talks with the former CEO of Scottish Care, Ranald Mair, who is a current board member of the Leonard Cheshire charity, and journalist Anne Brown who is the director of Forth Valley U3A.

Tam Beirne is a teacher and poet based in Kippen. He developed a love of reading at a young age. After leaving high school, he worked as a welder in a local factory before pursuing a career in teaching. He reflects on the influence of books on his formative years.

It鈥檚 the coming up to the Dali Lama鈥檚 85th birthday and to mark the occasion his is releasing an album of mantras & teachings. We hear more about this from Ani Rinchen Khandro from the Edinburgh Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Centre for World Peace and Health.

And we also have the first of two reports marking the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica Massacre. Our reporter Carol Purcell visited Bosnia-Herzegovina with the charity Remembering Srebrenica Scotland two years ago as part of an all-female delegation. In the first of two special reports, we hear again from the people she spoke to who survived, those who lost their families, and those trying to help remember and to heal the past.
