Episode 7
Five dealers bid against each other to buy a model giraffe, a snuff box and a set of Matchbox cars.
Nigel Havers welcomes four more sellers to the Bidding Room, where they try to sell items to five professional dealers who are on the look out for interesting pieces, with help from expert Simon Bower.
Alan from Hertfordshire is selling a collection of Matchbox toy cars that his mother has put together as an investment. He has 30 in all – all of them in their original boxes and including a model Rolls-Royce. He is so determined to sell that he has brought his mother, who is 90, in to help out, and she soon has the dealers in stitches. Ainsley from West Yorkshire brings in a collection of silver-plated goblets, cups and a tray. Bobbi collects brooches, and one of her purchases came with a snuff box and compass thrown in for free. She has kept the brooches but is selling the snuff box and compass. Simon reckons the snuff box dates from the turn of the 19th century and that the compass – which is known as a sundial compass – is late Victorian. Finally, Angie is offering a galloping giraffe - or at least a model of one, from a carousel.
The dealers today are Adi Higham, James Gooch, James Broad, Lucy Ryder Richardson and Tash Francis.
