Priti Patel racism row, Hammid Miah and lockdown & heritage

Qasa asks, who was the authority to speak on racism? Priti Patel says she 'will not be silenced' by people who disagree with her.

First, Qasa gets a round-up of the latest coronavirus news from our reporter Pete Walker. Since the death of George Floyd in the USA, many people have been sharing their stories of racism. We hear from British Asian professional snooker player, Hammid Miah, who says he received racist abuse when growing up. Then Qasa wants to know, who was the authority to speak on racism? The 91Èȱ¬ Secretary has hit back at opposition BAME MPs who have accused her of "gaslighting" black people's experience of racism. Priti Patel says she "will not be silenced" by people who disagree with her. After that we’ll hear how lockdown has helped some people to get back to their South Asian roots. Zara Janjua, a TV presenter and comedian has been learning Pakistani cuisine and Dr Rishi Handa, has started teaching online classes in Sanskrit, Punjabi and Hindi since lockdown started. Plus, our reporter Huma Shah has been looking into why Turkish historical drama ‘Ertugrul’ is so popular with British Pakistanis. And we’ll have our feature ‘Gotta Get Through This’, where we hear about Dr Shamender Talwar’s and Rajiv Adatia’s involvement in a social media campaign to fill the world with kindness.
