Tim McGarry, a six-foot-four comedian, joins vertically challenged Orangeman and historian, Dr David Hume, to look at a number of fascinating historical incidents and people in Irish history. The unlikely duo investigates well known historical events from different perspectives, to give the listener the long and the short of it. In this the third programme in the series they examine the time of the Gaelic League in the late 19th century and the concerted attempts to revive Irish culture and the Irish language, asking if the Irish language was hijacked by Republicans. They meet history researcher Dr Patrick Maume at Trinity College, Dublin; Dr Donal McAnallan, historian and project manager at the Ulster Folk Park at Cultra and Mairin Hurndall, broadcaster and lecturer in Irish Language.
