Care test delays; Children's magazines; Lockdown Joy
Some care home staff are facing lengthy delays for Covid-19 test results, meaning they cannot safely return to work; and sales of children's magazine subscriptions increase.
Delayed coronavirus test results are leaving some staff waiting days for the all clear to go back to work in care homes. One care home owners says the longest a member of staff has had to wait is 15 days. The care home has managed to keep residents away from the virus so far by having staff stay on site for 6 days at a time. But it can mean staff needing to return to work after time off are facing delays coming back. The Department for Health told You & Yours it has "built the largest diagnostic testing industry in British history from scratch in a matter of weeks and will continue to give testing priority to NHS staff and care home residents and workers in order to protect our most vulnerable".
Sales of children's magazines are up during lockdown. Some subscription retailers are reporting increases of 500% from the start of lockdown to mid-April as home-schooling parents look for new ways of entertaining and educating their children. there.
