ON THE PHONE-IN
Ninewells Hospital has created a 'father-friendly labour ward complete with faux-leather washable recliners, blankets and supplies of tea and toast for new dads. Partners are traditionally told to leave at night and only return during visiting hours, but in recent years more have been trying to extend their stays. The charity Fathers Network Scotland (FNS) said their research indicates that babies and mothers benefit in the early stages of births when fathers are engaged and supportive. FNS have specialised experts who can 'train' midwives about the importance of the role of fathers in births.
