Beneath the broad Alaskan sky, long-buried artefacts spill from the thawing tundra. In the eroding sand dunes of a Scottish island, preserved Neolithic hearths and homes are uncovered by the wind. And in a grandmother鈥檚 tenement flat, memories surface of a long-ago mining accident and a mother who was kind.

Nostalgia for the past competes with modern day comforts as poet Kathleen Jamie joins an archaeological dig on Westray.
