Today, a 95-year-old navy veteran is winched from the deck of a cruise ship, having lain undiscovered in his cabin for 11 hours. He’s diabetic, dehydrated and has suspected acute pancreatitis. He is also a hundred miles from hospital, where the night shift is about to get very busy. A patient has his holiday interrupted with kidney problems.
