Goldfrapp, Wire, Richard Hawley and more record their own versions of John Cage鈥檚 seminal composition 4鈥�33鈥� which instructs the musician not to play their instruments for the duration of 4 minutes and 33 seconds. The resulting piece consists of the sounds that are heard in the environment and was a groundbreaking work that challenged the concept of music and listening. Stuart chats to musician Simon Fisher Turner whose off-hand comment led to Mute Records asking 50 artists on their roster to record their own version of the piece.

Also in the show, Stuart features the first solo album by Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto released in 1978 before he formed the influential electronic group Yellow Magic Orchestra. Thousand Knives of Ryuichi Sakamoto paved the way for Yellow Magic Orchestra with its pioneering control of modular synths, bubbling melodies and intricate detail. Plus there鈥檚 new music from Xylouris White a duo who combine free jazz, rock drumming and traditional Cretan music.
